Grant Valley Township
Grant Valley Township reminds residents that keeping township roads and rights-of-way clear is essential for safe and efficient winter maintenance. The following policies apply to all township roads.
Garbage containers may not be placed within the road right-of-way and must be kept on private driveways, not on the roadway. Containers left in the right-of-way may be struck or pushed by snowplows. The plow operators are not responsible for damage to garbage containers left in these areas.
This requirement is supported by Minnesota Statute §160.2715.
Mailboxes, fences, and other items damaged during snow and ice removal are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Only items damaged by direct contact with snow removal equipment will be considered for repair at the road maintenance contractor’s expense.
The Township deems NON-BREAKAWAY MAILBOXES as a public hazard in accordance with MN State Statue 169.072. Residents are encouraged to install BREAKAWAY MAILBOXES.
The Township is not liable for damage to fences, vehicles, or other objects placed within the township road right-of-way.
It is unlawful under Minnesota Statute §160.2715 to plow snow from driveways onto or across township roads. Snow piles left on or near the roadway can freeze into solid masses or cause drifting, creating hazardous conditions for motorists and snowplows.
Accidents or damage resulting from snow placed in the roadway may result in liability to the property owner.
Residents are encouraged to help ensure safe travel and effective snow removal by keeping all obstructions out of the road right-of-way. For questions or concerns, please contact Grant Valley Township
